The Jerk is here for the sequel lol. Jerks are seemingly more enticing because they foster excitement and rebellion to societal norms of courtship or dating. They're "broody and mysterious" and society gives them more seductive power by romanticizing jerks. In childhood, it's common for boys to be a "jerk" toward a girl they like---pulling hair, tossing pebbles, poking fun, etc. At that age, boys are more likely to be a jerk toward girls rather than girls being the jerk to boys. Children, especially boys, aren't sure how to communicate their adoration to their crush, so they resort to how they communicate with their male peers, i.e., activity over emotional communication. And no, this isn't always the case, but it is typical. It's okay to be a jerk, but it's not okay to be abusive or manipulative. That's a higher tier of jerk: the narcissist. Early in life, they correlated their rude behavior and the response of a female's interest. Some men never grow out of their persona of the outsider, the rule-breaker, the bad boy that every woman lusts because it's innately tempting to flirt with danger from a close, albeit far connection. It's rare that "ugly" men (in quotes because physical beauty is arbitrary) uses the jerk routine to attract "beautiful" women. Why do middle-aged women sexualize Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson, Bundy, etc. until they made docuseries about them? Humans love fear so much that they both fear it and love it. Jerks are attractive because of their charisma and indifference of others.
